La Liga has opened a regional office in Singapore.

The body, which governs the top two tiers of Spanish domestic football, hopes the move will help expand the presence and fanbase of the league in Southeast Asia, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/.

As part of the move, the league plans to ensure more La Liga teams tour Singapore, as well as fostering relationships between local academy's and Spain's leading clubs.

"We are delighted to extend our presence in Asia, and this is the next step in our efforts to grow the sport and La Liga's popularity globally," said La Liga's president Javier Tebas.

"Asia has always been a very important market for us, and we feel that the time is right to grow our presence in the region even further, where we have a huge fan base. I am eagerly looking forward to our visit to Singapore for this historical project."

Joining the delegation to Singapore, former Real Madrid striker and current La Liga ambassador Fernando Morientes added: "As La Liga ambassadors, our biggest responsibility is to represent the best league in the world and keep our fans engaged with the sport. It's always our endeavour to reach out to supporters, not only in Spain, but also across the world."

La Liga currently operates regional hubs in China, India and Dubai.
