Landon Donovan says he is missing being with the USA national team but is aware he has to show the form that warrants selection.
The LA Galaxy star was left out of Juergen Klinsmann's squad for this round of World Cup qualifiers after his self-imposed exile from the game during winter and although he does miss it, he knows his club performances have to reflect a national team call-up.
"I do miss [being with the national team]," he said. "I want to be out there, but the reality is different. So when I get my chance, I'll be ready.
"We've got to win some games here [with the Galaxy]. Once we do that, I can focus on the other stuff."
And Donovan feels the USA, who will compete in the CONCACAF Gold Cup in July, are in a brilliant position to qualify for the 2014 World Cup.
"After five games, to have 10 points is fantastic, and considering the remaining schedule, you would like to think we're going to qualify," he said.
"And I was as proud and as happy as anyone over the last week watching those two games (2-1 win over Jamaica in Kingston and 2-0 triumph over Panama in Seattle)."
