Kompany was not dropped, merely 'refreshed' suggests Man City's Pellegrini

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has revealed that Vincent Kompany was not dropped for Wednesday's clash with Leicester City.

The Belgian centre-back's omission was one of five changes the Chilean made for the team that hosted the bottom-placed Foxes at the Etihad Stadium following a couple of defeats in a row.

Kompany was joined by Pablo Zabaleta and Edin Dzeko on the City bench while Samir Nasri and Fernandinho missed out altogether but Pellegrini insists the alterations were merely to 'refresh' his line-up.

"I wanted to refresh the team after the last two games, both mentally and physically, which was important," Pellegrini told Sky Sports News.

"But it was the same with Pablo Zabaleta, Samir Nasri and Fernandinho."

Kompany and Zabaleta were unused subs in the 2-0 victory while Dzeko replaced Sergio Aguero in the 85th minute as second-placed City remained five points behind league leaders Chelsea.
