Koeman: Southampton eager to discuss extension with Clyne

Ronald Koeman says Southampton want to sit down and talk with Nathaniel Clyne in a bid to tie him down to a new contract.

The Dutchman acknowledges it may be hard to keep the right-back on the south coast after he was linked with Manchester United but the Saints owe it to themselves to at least speak with the right-back in a bid to ward off any interested clubs.

Clyne is contract at St Mary's until the summer of 2016.

"We don't wait until the end of the season because you know if there is a player who is left one season of his contract then you have to do something," he said.

"Of course we have to do everything to keep the player in the team, but I like to know it as soon as possible - not in the last week of the season, but earlier on.

"I mentioned April but by the end of April, the first week of May, it's good to know something about his situation."
