Klopp hails ‘wonderful night’ for Liverpool but still calls for improvement

Jurgen Klopp immediately spoke of improving his Liverpool team in the wake of Thursday night's impressive 3-0 win over Villarreal.

The Reds dominated the Spanish side in the semi-final second leg to qualify for the Europa League final which takes place against Sevilla in Basel on May 18.

An own-goal from Villarreal skipper Bruno before second-half strikes from Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana saw the Merseyside outfit into the decider and even though Klopp was over the moon, he admitted there was some impatience from his players as he strives to continue improving in his debut season with the club.

"Wonderful night, brilliant game from my side. What a performance," he told BT Sport.

"The first half an hour was a big emotion, it was great.

"The last 15 minutes of the first half we lost patience."

But Klopp was delighted with how his side responded to finish off their opponents and progress to a second final under his guidance, following their League Cup loss to Manchester City in February.

"The second half plan was to keep going with the emotional football but using the brain a bit more and in the end brilliant," he added.

"Everyone spoke a lot about this team before I came here.

"It was all about quality and not good transfers, I came here because I thought they had a nice squad but now we are in the final - Basel - a longer season!"
