Reading striker Dave Kitson credited his performance against Wigan on Saturday to his wife being away!

Kitson struck in the 2-1 win and said: "I prepared harder than I've ever prepared for a game before in terms of concentration, taking the fluids on board, eating the right food and living like a priest. "Sometimes you do all that, you have an absolute stinker and you wonder why you bothered but this time it clicked for me - maybe it was something to do with the missus being away.

"She's gone on holiday to Cyprus with a mate for a week so it's been nice and quiet and I've been minding my own business - just been me, the TV remote and the papers, watching and reading about football and telling myself how I was going to play.

"It's a mental thing and when I get home I'll be on the phone to the travel agents to see if I can extend the wife's holiday another week!"
