Juventus goalkeeper Gigi Buffon has been named the greatest of the Champions League.

The Juventus and Italy legend beat Bayern Munich's Oliver Kahn in a final Twitter poll held by the official Champions League account.

Over 58,000 votes were cast over the course of the poll.

Shot-stoppers eliminated along the way include Peter Schmeichel, Angelo Peruzzi, Gianluca Pagliuca, Santiago Canizares, Edwin van der Sar, Fabien Barthez, Francesco Toldo, Iker Casillas, Jens Lehmann, Jerzy Dudek, Manuel Neuer, Victor Valdes, Petr Cech and Inter's Julio Cesar.

Despite this award, Buffon has never been able to win the Champions League.
