Junior Firpo: Real Betis axing Setien unfair

Junior Firpo is sorry over the departure of Real Betis coach Quique Setien.

The defender says the decision was "unfair".

Firpo told Marca: "I think maybe it was a little unfair when you consider what he achieved in two years at Betis; he did things that haven't been seen for a long time. He returned the club to Europe and we were battling for two seasons to get into the Champions League. This was practically unthinkable four or five years ago when we were in the Segunda Division."

"Quique has always been very much loved in the dressing room. In my case he was the one who practically gave me the opportunity to show just what kind of a player I am. He gave me the chance to play in LaLiga [Santander]. I have to give him a lot of thanks, he's the reason I'm here.

"When I was in the academy I don't think I believed I would have any chance of coming to an Under-21 European Championship [with Spain], that's why I've always supported him. However, I think the situation was untenable for him and the players were aware of the murmurs from the crowd in each game. It wasn't comfortable to play like that."
