Iran club rivalry may stretch to US shores

Plans for a clash between Iran's two biggest clubs in the United States are underway. Piroozi and Esteghlal are believed to be taking their rivalry to Los Angeles in a move that is bound to create awareness about the game in Iran and boost relations between the two nations.

Vision Iran's Amirhossein Karimpour told afc.com about the potential clash.

"This is a big issue," Karimpour said.

"Not only is it a big thing to have Iranian teams travelling to the US but for two big teams to play each other on US soil is a major move.

"I'm sure, if it happens, it will be a great success and Iranians living in the US would pack the stadium."

The US has an enormous Iranian population with about 1.5 million people of Iranian descent living in the country; about 600,000 of those are in LA.
