Local journalist Alberto Cerruti has questioned the appointment of Zlatan Ibrahimovic at AC Milan.
The former striker will act as an advisor to Milan and their owners RedBird Capital.
Cerruti told TMW: "I am against the dual role. There is no precedent for a manager being hired mid-season. He has to put himself into a role that he doesn't know. Rivera immediately became vice president of Milan and went to Serie B twice.
"Being great players does not mean being good managers. Ibrahimovic has a particular character and this move confirms that he is more smoke than fire. And knowing Pioli's seriousness, I wouldn't be surprised if he was the one to remove the disturbance, given that some people see him that way, wrongly.
"Nobody explained this choice. A serious company makes decisions and explains them, but there is no one to speak. It's this move is a band-aid that must cover open wounds due to the company's wrong decisions.
"Maldini was criticized but whoever arrived later was worse. If Pioli is no longer considered up to par, the club will take responsibility and exonerate him. Do not take buffer solutions. This confusion hurts everyone, Pioli, players and fans."
