Will Hughes knows his Watford team must improve if they are to avoid relegation.
The Hornets were unable to extend their one-point relegation buffer after losing 3-1 to Southampton on Sunday.
"It's simply not good enough," Hughes told the club's website.
"It's a disappointing result and a disappointing performance. We know we've not been good enough and we didn't deserve anything out of the game.
"It's frustrating because everything we've been good at when we've won games, like keeping compact and team shape, it just wasn't there.
"Since the manager came in, he's built things around us working as a team and it's worked because we've put in good performances and won games, so we have to get back to that as soon as possible."
