Brett Holman's return to the AZ Alkmaar line-up was not a happy affair as the Dutch club slumped to a 4-1 defeat at BATE Borisov overnight.
The Eredivisie outfit were completely dominated by the Belarus club in the second Europa League group stage match of the season in what was a hugely disappointing result.
Vitaliy Rodionov netted in the 5th minute for Borisov before Artem Kontsevoy made up for his earlier penalty miss by making it 2-0 three minutes after the break.
Holman was subbed on in the 67th minute - his first AZ appearance for a month following a calf injury - but he made little impact as the home side grabbed two more goals though Renan Bressan and Edgar Olekhnovich before Alkmaar's Kolbeinn Sigthorsson scored a late consolation prize.
