Hiddink compares Chelsea legend Terry to Gullit, Rijkaard, Koeman

Guus Hiddink believes John Terry is destined for a career in management once his glittering playing career finishes.

The 35-year-old Chelsea captain is almost certain to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the current season which would bring to an end an 18-year stay with the West London club.

The Blues board are yet to offer Terry a new contract meaning he is set to depart once his deal expires at the end of June but the next chapter in his extensive career is far from decided.

Where Terry plays on is unknown to interim Chelsea boss Hiddink but he feels the former England international has the pedigree to step into the coaching caper just like some of the Dutchman's former protege's, such as Ruud Gullit, Frank Rijkaard and Ronald Koeman, have done before him.

"The other day we were sitting next to each other at Bournemouth and we discussed it a bit," said Hiddink of the four-time Premier League champion.

"Those players, and I have experienced it in the past with Gullit, Rijkaard and Koeman, start thinking about what they should do next.

"They love to be involved in football. John's always been a leader and tactically you can rely on him, which is important. You can use your experience to help any player or team."
