Havertz repays Tuchel faith as Chelsea take controlling win over Lille

Chelsea are in control of their Champions League round of 16 tie with Lille after a 2-0 win over Stamford Bridge.

Kai Havertz replaced Romelu Lukaku as the starting number nine after the latter racked up just seven touches in last weekend's win over Crystal Palace.

Germany star Havertz repaid Thomas Tuchel's faith by opening the scoring after just eight minutes, heading home Hakim Ziyech's corner.

The home side were hardly threatened as Thiago Silva organised his defence superbly.

Tuchel's team extended their advantage halfway through the second-half thanks to a terrific run and pass from N'Golo Kante.

The World Cup winner's superb effort set-up Christian Pulisic to lift the ball over Lille goalkeeper Leo Jardim.

In bad news for Chelsea, Hakim Ziyech and Mateo Kovavic both had to be withdrawn with suspected injuries.
