Eric Hassli received his third red card of the MLS season as Vancouver Whitecaps drew 1-1 with Chivas USA at The Home Depot Center on Wednesday night.
The Frenchman denied new Whitecaps coach Tom Soehn the chance to make an immediate impact with the club following the sacking of Teitur Thordarson when he was given his marching orders in the 66th minute for a reckless tackle on Chivas' Ben Zemanski.
However, prior to that, Chivas midfielder Nick LaBrocca produced a fine individual effort in the first minute of the second half, beating 'Caps keeper Joe Cannon from 20 yards to give his side the lead before Vancouver replied almost immediately through Brazilian striker Camilo Sanvezzo with a super strike from inside the area which gave Dan Kennedy no chance.
But neither side could break the deadlock in the remaining stages of the second half as Vancovuer were denied their second win of the season to stay bottom of the Western Conference table as Chivas remained just two places above them with a fifth draw in 12 matches.
