Hamann: Liverpool defender Sakho deserves two-year ban, I have no sympathy for him

Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann believes that Mamadou Sakho should be severely punished for alleged anti-doping.

Sakho is facing a lengthy ban if his 'B' sample is confirmed as positive having failed a drug test conducted following Liverpool's Europa League victory over Manchester United last month.

There has been widespread sympathy for Sakho from his teammates and peers but former Reds star Hamann has made no excuses for the Frenchman and believes that he should be slapped with a two-year ban from football after allegedly taking a fat burning pill.

The German said on the Colin Murray Show on talkSPORT: "I don't think they should let him off with a minimum ban.

"He failed a drugs test and it is his fault. As a player, you are warned on an almost daily basis.

"The doctor tells you: 'if you do take anything, let us know because it could be eye drops, a nasal spray, there could be something in it that is banned'.

"I have got no sympathy for the guy and if he were to get a two-year ban I don't think you could argue with it."
