Former Sunderland striker Don Goodman expects Jermain Defoe to bang in the goals for Sunderland next season.
Defoe joined Sunderland from MLS club Toronto FC for big money during the January transfer window last term and while he did have a contribution to make in the Black Cats' successful battle against the drop, the striker's 4 goals in 14 appearances were below par for such a prolific scoer.
Despite Defoe's average record on Wearside, Goodman believes that the ex-England international will be back to his best during the upcoming campaign.
Goodman told the Chronicle: "Everybody wants goals, but goals cost an awful lot of money.
"Jermain Defoe having a full pre-season under his belt will be massive, and hopefully he will come back firing on all cylinders. If he does, I don't think there is another better goal-scorer in the Premier League than him."
