Gold Coast United striker Shane Smeltz kicked further clear of the rest of the pack on the A-League goalscoring chart by netting a double on the weekend. The New Zealand international scored both of Gold Coast's goals in their 3-2 loss to the Newcastle Jets on Sunday - one from the penalty spot and one a crafty tap-in - to go to 14 for the season and grab a five-goal lead over North Queensland Fury's Robbie Fowler.
Of the other top few scorers, only Melbourne Victory midfielder Carlos Hernandez added to his tally when he scored the opener in the reigning champions 3-0 away win over the Central Coast Mariners.
