Shay Given is in doubt for the FA Cup final according to Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood.

The veteran Irish goalkeeper is battling injury just a week out from the Wembley clash with Arsenal but will be given every chance to prove his fitness.

"Shay's a doubt. We're assessing him every day, I wouldn't have played him today anyway," said Sherwood after young keeper Jed Steer made his Premier League debut in Sunday's 1-0 loss to Burnley.

"You don't often get the chance to look at a young goalie and you can only really assess them on the stage and I thought Jed did all right.

"We're not ruling Shay out yet."

Villa were beaten by Danny Ings' sixth-minute goal on the final day of the league season to finish in 17th position on the table.
