Germany's Muller planning to keep perfect record against Argentina's Messi

Thomas Muller is looking to improve his record of never having lost a competitive match against Argentina great Lionel Messi.

The Bayern Munich star is three from three against the Barcelona ace for both club and country and is targeting a fourth straight competitive victory when Germany meet Argentina in the World Cup final on Sunday.

"It'll be very important to push ourselves to the limit, especially defensively. You need to be quick to keep up with Messi," said Muller who has scored five goals in the 2014 tournament making it ten World Cup goals in total.

"We've played against Messi a few times. I've never lost a competitive game against him.

"We haven't had a tour of Rio de Janeiro yet but for me the only reason for going back there is to win the World Cup."

Bayern beat Barcelona 4-0 in 2013 with Muller scoring twice and providing one assist in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final before adding another goal in the 3-0 second leg triumph at the Nou Camp for a 7-0 aggregate.

The only competitive international meeting between the pair resulted in a 4-0 win to die Mannschaft in the quarter-finals at South Africa 2010 with Muller once again on the scoresheet.
