Fulham boss Hodgson: January market can be dangerous

Fulham boss Roy Hodgson admits he has concerns about spending big in the January market.

He told fulhamfc.com: "When talking about transfers I can only go back to what I said at my first press conference a week ago. It's a dangerous time the January transfer window because there's only one window in the season.

"When I first went to Inter Milan they had a mercato (window) in November and it was always a hectic time because any team that had started poorly were panicking into buying players. It was a good time for teams at the top of the league to unload players that they didn't really want.

"We've got to be wise in the transfer window. I wouldn't like to be bringing players in on a short term basis. They've got to make us better, not just in the last months of the season to keep us in the league but also next season when we're trying to build an even stronger team. That's a tough task. The type of players that are being flagged up are not the type of players that have definite pedigree that you could be 100% certain that they are top quality Premiership players who will make us better today and we can build on tomorrow.

"I'm not ruling out signing players - absolutely not. I, the team and the staff - we want to do well and if there are players out there who will make us a lot better then please bring them on. What we don't want to do is to be panicked into buying players that won't help us do any better and just make our list of players longer."
