France coach Didier Deschamps believes Kylian Mbappe will stay with PSG this season.

With less than a year to run on his contract, Mbappe continues to be linked with Real Madrid before next week's transfer deadline.

Deschamps told L'Equipe: “The situation was complicated, but now it has normalised. Even better. It's a win-win situation. I have spoken with him. It's fantastic for the French team, of course, but also for the club and for him.

“He will be with us, it is a certainty. We would have tried to find solutions. It would not have replaced the competition, but we would have tried to compensate where possible. Kylian would have been with us even without playing in August.

"I was not going to get involved. That is not my role. I talked to him, like I do with other players, but that's his career. I am not a counselor. At most I give them an opinion if they ask me.

“I have had discussions, but whatever the situation, I make sure I understand everything. Of course, not playing... For him, playing is priceless. But having all his resources without being able to play for his team would have been impossible."

Asked about Mbappe's ego, Deschamps also said: “What is the ego? Egotism? It is part of being a striker and it is a quality. But otherwise he is anything but selfish. He is a team player with the ability to make a difference for himself. But that doesn't mean he neglects others.

"He is ambitious, he wants everything very fast, he has already done a lot, but he still wants to do more. It is logical, given his history with the French team. He assumes his new responsibilities without burdening him. He opens up the team a little more for him."
