Former Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City ace Anelka joins Mumbai City

Nicolas Anelka's agent has confirmed that his client is the latest big name to join the Indian Super League (ISL).

The 35-year old French striker has signed a deal with Mumbai City FC which will see him become a major part of the ISL inaugural season.

The former Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain man was a supposed target for Italian sides Fiorentina and Palermo but his representative Alexander Garin told Violanews that he had indeed committed to the ISL where he will join ex-fellow Gunner Freddie Ljungberg in Mumbai.

"Fiorentina never made contact with Anelka," Garin said.

"Anelka signed a deal with Mumbai FC and so there is no chance of a U-turn.

"The contract will expire on December 25th, I have it, so there are no problems. We have never had contacts with Viola, so the news that said this is false.

"Anelka asked for 1.5 million euros each season - a salary that is out of reach in Italy. We had contacts with Palermo, but we didn't go forward for this."
