Forest attacker Gibbs-White grateful to Cooper after victory over Southampton

Nottingham Forest attacker Morgan Gibbs-White was delighted after their 4-3 win against Southampton.

Gibbs-White struck from the spot on the night.

He said, "Best feeling in the world, especially when the game ends like that.

"We showed resilience tonight, stuck together and got the three points.

"It was vital for us [to get ahead]. We've not been great at getting a lead. We stuck to the manager's game plan and managed to see it out.

"Our plan was to go and press but Southampton are good at keeping the ball so we dropped off for the first 10 or 15 minutes and then we built fluidity as the game opened up."

On relationship with Steve Cooper, he added: "I wish I had this relationship with every manager. The way he man manages players is incredible. I worked with him with England.

"I feel sorry for him the way the season has gone. We aren't playing the way he's wanted to this season but hopefully, that can change.

"All he says to me is 'go and get on the ball and be free'. Obviously I do have to defend too. It's all about believing in him and I take my hat off to him for everything he's done."
