Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has paid tribute to Karim Benzea.

Real held a farewell ceremony for Benzema at the Santiago Bernabeu today.

Florentin declared: "Today is a very difficult day for me, as memories and emotions lived in the last 14 years come to mind. 14 years ago a period of illusion began.

"Since the announcement of Karim's farewell, I have seen an enormous feeling of sadness in Madridistas and in football fans who have been moved by the magic of a footballer like Karim. Dear Karim, you have become one of the best in history.

"We have seen you do incredible things with our shield in all parts of the world. And that will never be forgotten by any madridista. Dear captain, we are all very proud of you. You arrived very young and you have become a symbol and one of our great legends. You have defended the values of Madrid. You have been an example in everything. Today you leave Madrid with the love of the whole world.

"Playing for the best club in the world and going down in history is something that only a select few can achieve and you are one of those. Every time you remember your career with us, you will remember them, the 25 titles you achieved, more than anyone else.

"Karim , you have been an example for the children of our club. As president, I could put no buts on your conduct and behavior. You have represented the best values of Real Madrid. You have earned the right to choose your destiny. We can only accept and respect it. Thank you for everything you have given us and for making this club great. You leave as one of the best players in history. I am sure that wherever you are, you will continue to represent the values of Real Madrid."
