FIGC youth chief Viscidi: Chelsea midfielder Casadei a real late bloomer

FIGC youth chief Maurizio Viscidi admits they're excited by the potential of Chelsea midfielder Cesare Casadei.

The former Inter Milan primavera starlet has just completed a record-breaking U20 World Cup as Italy captain.

Viscidi told La Gazzetta dello Sport: "A first Casadei memory? Christmas tournament in 2017, he was still with Cesena. Cesare already had a good technique and was very tall for his age, but perhaps for this reason he lacked intensity, speed and coordination.

"We made a good relationship, but he wasn't among the top.

"It often happens that those who are very strong at that age then get lost, as well as the other way around. Since then Casadei has grown a lot in his reading of the game, in his character and physically. Today he is a box-to-box midfielder, capable of covering the whole pitch: he defends in his area and in a few seconds you see him close to the opponent's goal. What's more, he's exceptional in the air, a skill that few young players have."

Asked if Casadei would be now a Serie A regular he had stayed with Inter, Viscidi added: "I have no doubts about it: he is both physically and temperamentally ready."
