New York Cosmos coach Giovanni Savarese says it is ridiculous to suggest any club could find a replacement for a player of Raul's iconic status.

Roma captain Francesco Totti is a target for the NASL powerhouse, confirmed by Savarese last week to Tribalfootball.com, but talk of the Italian - or anyother big name - replacing Raul is out of order.

Speaking to Tribalfootball.com, Savarese said of the Real Madrid legend: "I've said it so many times, Raul is irreplaceable. There is no-one we are going to be able to bring in to replace Raul. Raul is Raul. That's why he has done so many great things in the game.

"Also, we do not have the need to bring in someone to replace Raul.

"We're a different team (to last season) and have some interesting players. And on the soccer side we continue to develop and grow as a team.

"And we've been able to do this without the concern of replacing Raul because he is someone who is impossible to replace."

Raul hung up the boots last season after leading the New York Cosmos to the NASL championship.
