Ex-ref chief Hackett: How can you say Liverpool boss Klopp was 'banned'?

A former Premier League referee has spoken about the logic behind Jurgen Klopp of Liverpool getting a touchline ban recently.

The German coach was given the ban for his behavior during their recent win over Manchester City, when he argued with the fourth official about a decision against his team.

However, ex-Premier League referee Keith Hackett is not happy with the FA's handling of the situation.

"What a waste of time the procedure laid down for a touchline ban by the FA is," Hackett told Football Insider.

"First of all, I want to praise the FA for appealing the process.

“So he gets a one-match ban but in reality, this guy is still allowed to do his job. It's not a ban, is it? If you're a player, you can't play if you get a ban.

“What is he doing? He's sat next to the technical guy and is in contact with the technical area. He's managing the game and probably has a better view than being stood at the side of the pitch.

“One of the things I learned from Sam Allardyce when he was at Bolton Wanderers he used to spend a good part of the first half sat in the directors' box with a couple of screens in front of him, one with a seven-second delay. Maybe this is the future for Mr Klopp in the first half?"
