Ex-Preston, Burnley favourite Alexander: Man Utd's Moyes will reach Fergie, Shankly heights

Former Preston North End defender Graham Alexander believes Manchester United boss David Moyes will be regarded in the future as a managerial great.

The Scot played for Moyes at Preston.

"I have no doubt that David Moyes will be a name to be remembered alongside Bill Shankly, Jock Stein and Alex Ferguson. I was 27 when Moyes signed me, having played only in the lower leagues with Scunthorpe and Luton. I had met many managers, but David Moyes was the only one who picked out my bad habits and told me things that I could do better. He seems to know instinctively how to improve a player and get that extra 20 or 30 per cent from them.

"He believed I could play at the top, at international level. I won 40 caps for Scotland and played a season in the Premier League with Burnley and David Moyes' total belief in me made that happen," he told the Daily Mail.
