LVG questions Solskjaer training work: But Man Utd won't sack him

Former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal can't see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer being sacked anytime soon.

Van Gaal was infamously dumped by United just two days after winning the FA Cup, but he believes Solskjaer remains secure in the post - not the least thanks to him being a former United player.

Solskjaer won the Treble with United, famously coming off the bench to help Sir Alex Ferguson's team achieve a stunning Champions League triumph against Bayern Munich in 1999. And it's such history that Van Gaal believes gives Solskjaer more room than he had during his short spell with the club.

He told Ziggo Sport via Voetbalzone: "He also had moments last year when they were not in good shape, but he is a former player. That makes a difference. I don't think they will fire him that soon.

"Despite what is in the media.

“They have made good purchases, especially (Bruno) Fernandes. He has been very decisive, he scores goals and assists."

For Van Gaal, Solskjaer has all the tools needed and he questions whether the Norwegian is doing enough work with the players on the Carrington training pitches.

“The game type is of a counter team, Solskjaer always adapts to the opponent and plays with different systems," Van Gaal analyses. “The question is whether he trains for it, because sometimes it is not carried out properly. That is usually the reason.

"It is less due to the qualities in the player group, because (Mason) Greenwood is a very fast boy and shoots easily with left and right. (Anthony) Martial and (Marcus) Rashford do the same, they are suitable for a counter team. You could say that Solskjaer brings out the qualities in his own team."

Van Gaal had two years in charge of United, culminating in their 2016 FA Cup final triumph against Crystal Palace. But two days later, he and his staff were sacked by United and replaced by Jose Mourinho and his team.
