Ex-Man City chief Rigg named Burnley technical director

Former Manchester City chief Mike Rigg has been named Burnley's new technical director.

Rigg, who will head up the process of talent identification and recruitment throughout the whole club, from Academy to first team, admits he cannot wait to get started.

He told the club's website: “Unfortunately, I didn't get to experience any of the European nights you had earlier in the season.

“If that comes back – fantastic. But to manage expectations, the Premier League is where we deserve to be and that's what we're going to fight for and everything I can do to support Sean will be about maintaining Premier League status.

“This isn't being negative or not ambitious, but we can't afford to stand still and we can't afford just to take the presumption that we did so well last year.

“There's no God-given right for us to stay here. They key to this is to constantly re-invent, because everyone else is moving forward and everyone else is doing something. We don't want to just stand still."
