Former Liverpool and Arsenal striker Nicolas Anelka has jumped to the defence of Sam Allardyce.

Anelka played for the disgraced former England coach at Bolton Wanderers.

"Sorry about this big story Sam!" Anelka posted to social media.

"You were the right man for the position of England and I think you still are! No matter what you did or what you said.

"We all make mistakes .... The most important thing is that we still love you! Thank you for everything."
