Former Liverpool attacker Takumi Minamino has earned a surprising honour in the early part of the season.

The Japanese flyer has been named the Ligue 1 Player of the Month for August.

Minamino finished ahead of the likes of Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe in the voting.

Minamino scored three goals and provided two assists in the three league matches he participated in with Monaco.

Having struggled for regular game time at the club last season, Minamino now looks settled.

Reds fans will be happy to see a former fringe player getting a chance to shine.
