Ex-Arsenal striker Smith: Wenger almost has title-winning team

Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith feels they're on the brink of creating a title-winning team.

Smith wrote in the Telegraph: " There is a strong feeling from some within the club, some previously pessimistic, that Arsenal are now not too far away from becoming genuine title challengers; closer certainly than they have been for a while thanks to a formidable depth of talent and a slight change in tack when it comes to tactically preparing for matches.

"More still needs to be done. The jigsaw has yet to be completed. Those looking forward to next season with much more hope know that it will take two or three signings of the right sort to properly bridge the longstanding gap.

"The record shows that this manager will persevere. But supposing someone like Karim Benzema became available. That would really send out a message. With Benzema leading the line, Arsenal's attack suddenly compares favourably with Chelsea's and that of Manchester City. United would do well to get anywhere near."
