Ex-Arsenal manager Wenger: European Super League would destroy Premier League

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has sounded the alarm about a possible European Super League.

There have been media reports suggesting some of the top teams in England and the rest of Europe wanted to start a league of their own.

It would include "top six" sides like Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham.

But Wenger believes such a venture would destroy the Premier League as it exists right now.

"I don't believe that Europe is ready for that," he told the Guardian. "The period is actually that the Premier League has a superiority. The project wanted to reinforce this superiority.

"The other leagues tried to destroy the advantage the Premier League has.

"For them, the best way to tame that is to create a European League.

"That means to destroy the Premier League basically.

"If they get the agreement from the English big clubs, then it will happen."
