Everton boss Roberto Martinez is keen to secure James McCarthy to a new deal.
The Mirror says Martinez is trying to tie down McCarthy to a new contract - to stop Arsenal making a January move.
The Toffees are aware of Arsenal's interest and that will only increase their determination to keep him.
Everton do not want to lose any of their big players and are likely to reject bids from Arsenal unless they move into £20million-plus territory.
