EUROPA LEAGUE: Liverpool kickstart campaign with Bordeaux draw

Liverpool and Bordeaux each grabbed a point in their opening Europa League fixture on Thursday night.

The Reds travelled to southwestern France with a number of senior players remaining on Merseyside following the weekend's disappointing loss to Manchester United in the Premier League.

Brendan Rodgers made eight changes to that starting XI but the Reds on show at the Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux put in a decent performance, considering a handful of them were vastly inexperienced.

The likes of Joe Gomez, Jordan Rossiter, Jordon Ibe and Divock Origi, Pedro Chirivella and Cameron Brannigan all featured throughout the night but it was midfield stars Adam Lallana, back from injury, and Philippe Coutinho, returning from suspension, who did most of the work.

In the 65th minute, Lallana edged Liverpool ahead with a fine individual effort which saw him nutmeg Pablo before slotting home inside the far post from the left side of the area.

As the visitors were towards a possible victory, however, Bordeaux substitute Jussie drew his side level in the 81st minute to ensure both teams landed a point from their Group B opener.
