EUROPA LEAGUE: Liverpool come from behind to secure knockout berth

Liverpool have come from a goal down to defeat Bordeaux 2-1 to ensure their progress to the next phase of the Europa League.

Jurgen Klopp oversaw his fifth win in the Reds' past six outings to move to the top of the Group B table with just one fixture remaining in the initial stage of Europe's second tier club competition.

The Merseyside outfit fell behind in the 33rd minute when goalkeeper Simon Mignolet was penalised for holding onto the ball for too long. Referee Alon Yefet awarded Bordeaux an indirect free-kick which was quickly played to Henri Saivet to fire home.

However, the Reds were back on even terms five minutes later when they received their first penalty in 23 matches after Ludovic Sane had fouled Christian Benteke in the area, allowing James Milner to step up to the spot and convert for the home side.

On the stroke of half-time, Liverpool hit the front through Benteke who had done well to keep Nathaniel Clyne's cross in front of him before rifling beyond Bordeaux gloveman Cedric Carrasso.

The second half saw Klopp's side control proceedings with Mignolet having very little to do as the Reds joined Premier League rivals Tottenham in the Round of 32.

Liverpool's next European task will be to keep hold of top spot in their group when they travel to second-placed FC Sion on December 10.
