England release Henderson back to Liverpool due to injury

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson isn't traveling to San Marino with England on Monday.

England have reported that the 31-year-old is one of several players in Gareth Southgate's squad who have returned to their clubs before the end of the international break.

Henderson was hailed for his most recent performance in a Three Lions shirt against Albania on Friday night.

Despite playing the whole 90 minutes at Wembley, an England statement said that Henderson had returned to the Reds “for further assessment" on an undisclosed injury.

Manchester City midfielder Jack Grealish has returned to his club for the same reason, while Southgate will also be without Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount, and Luke Shaw against San Marino.

England have promoted Crystal Palace loanee Connor Gallagher to the senior side to helps fill the gaps left by Henderson and his teammates.
