England coach Southgate makes call on Shaw and Mount

England coach Gareth Southgate says Luke Shaw and Mason Mount are unlikely to be involved for their World Cup qualifier with San Marino.

Southgate confirmed the pair were set to stay behind, with Shaw recovering from concussion and Mount having undergone dental surgery this week.

Both players failed to join up with the Three Lions squad at the start of the week as they stayed behind at their clubs for treatment.

Shaw suffered a concussion in Manchester United's defeat to Manchester City last weekend and had to follow protocols before being released for international duty.

He suffered a setback earlier in the week, further delaying his release and return to action.

Chelsea midfielder Mount, meanwhile, had wisdom teeth removed after suffering flu-like symptoms.

Southgate said: “Luke and Mason are very unlikely to joins us. It looks like we will run out of time with those two. But I will make changes definitely (against San Marino)."
