DONE DEAL: Renan Lodi excited making Nottingham Forest move

Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Atletico Madrid fullback Renan Lodi.'

The Brazilian moves to the City Ground in an initial loan arrangement.

"Firstly, I'm really happy to be here at, Forest is an extraordinary team in English football and a very big club," said Lodi to the club's website.

"I'm really excited about the opportunity and really looking forward to starting training, meeting my teammates and getting a run of games. I feel very happy today."

Lodi was at The City Ground to watch The Reds' fixture against Tottenham on Sunday afternoon, and says he was impressed with the atmosphere generated by the Forest supporters.

"I mentioned this to my agent in the stands, the high-pressure environment playing in front of the fans here. I love it, and genuinely can't wait to be playing and feeling the passion of a home crowd in Nottingham.

"The club placed a lot of faith in me from the very first contact we had. They made a lot of effort for me to be here today. When the offer came through I didn't have to think twice about coming here to show what I can do."

Talking about his upbringing, Lodi details his journey to Nottingham via the Brazilian Série A, La Liga and the Brazil national team.

"I started out at a football academy called Meninos da Vila in Riberão Preto. From there I moved to a feeder club called Trieste FC in the city of Curitiba. I was there for 8 months before moving to Athletico Paranaense where I spent almost 9 years.

"I played for the first team and was called up to the Brazilian national team and then moved to Atlético Madrid. I played there for 3 years and now I'm delighted to have the opportunity to play for Nottingham Forest.

"I had a lot of inspirational players in my position to look up to, the likes of Alex Sandro, Marcelo, Filipe Luís and my idol in world football is Ronaldo Fenomeno [Nazario].

"The main highlight of my career was winning the South American Cup in 2018 with Athletico Paranaense. I then won another very important trophy which was the Spanish league title with Atlético Madrid, but the 2018 victory is really close to my heart. I'd just made it into the first team and we went on to lift this trophy."

Away from the pitch, Lodi says he's excited to start learning the English language as well as looking forward to becoming a father with his wife expecting a child next year.

"In Spain during my time off, I would look to learn the Spanish language. I really like spending time with my wife, I'm going to be a father in 7 or 8 months! In my free time I like going out to restaurants and here in England I'm going to spend my time learning the English language.

"I'm most excited about the intensity of the game. It's a strong, physical game. I'm certain that it will really suit my style of play. I'm looking forward to training with my teammates and having the opportunity to play in games as well.

"I'd like to write my name into the club's history. I want Nottingham to stay in the top division, the Premier League. It's a massive, ambitious club. My main objective is also to go to the World Cup, representing Nottingham Forest with the Brazilian national team and on the world stage. This club showed total faith in me and I want to give something back to them too."
