Cardiff City today confirmed the signing of Romanian defender Gabriel Tamas.

The Championship club have signed the 31-year-old centre-back on a one-year deal, subject to international clearance.

Tamas, who has had previous spells in the UK with West Bromwich Albion, Watford and Doncaster Rovers, was thrilled to be back in English football after a short stint with Romanian giants Steaua Bucharest.

"I wanted to return to English football and out of a few offers, decided that Cardiff City was the Club I wanted to come to," Tamas told Cardiff City Player HD.

"I've met up with the Manager and a few of the boys who I remember playing against during my time in the UK. I'm looking forward to training with the boys and getting out there."
