DONE DEAL: Capture of Chelsea legend Drogba will transform Montreal Impact

Montreal Impact has pulled off a major coup by signing former Chelsea superstar Didier Drogba.

Drogba joins the Impact on a free transfer as their marquee player, having signed off at Stamford Bridge by winning the Premier League title in 2014/15.

The Ivorian joins the likes of Steven Gerrard, Andrea Pirlo, David Villa and Frank Lampard to have joined the MLS this season.

Montreal Impact Vice President of International Relations and Technical Development Nick De Santis, said Drogba will excite the entire city of Montreal.

"He's an African that speaks French very well and has played on one of the best clubs in England," De Santis said. "We can sum it up that way because we're bringing in a player that the whole city can embrace – the English, the French, the Africans, everyone.

"For us, today, history is being made. We've always brought in quality players. Now, we're bringing in an international player that everyone knows. Now that he's chosen Montreal, the project, our vision, the city, the language and all that, we'll welcome him here with great pleasure."
