Dominic Matteo exclusive: Leeds whiz Archie Gray has that Gray family football IQ

While still only 18 years old, Archie Gray has put in a serious shift for Leeds United this season. The youngster has played 36 league matches at the time of writing and former Leeds captain Dominic Matteo is full of praise of the talent emerging from Elland Road this season.

"He is an unbelievable player. An unbelievable talent. It seems to be in the genes," Matteo tells Tribalfootball.com of Archie who stems from a long list of football players in the Gray family. Among them Elland Road legend Eddie Gray.

"Apparently his brother is an unbelievable striker coming through as well," says Matteo who recently had the pleasure of interviewing Archie Gray for a podcast and found a "very, very balanced kid".

"You know, there are certain rules you have to follow at a certain age when you're a minor and you have to be 18 to go into the dressing room. So, he's only now allowed to go into the dressing room and get changed with the boys. It'll help him even more being around the group."

Big clubs have already been sniffing around Elland Road for a look at Gray, from both UK and the continent, among them Liverpool, but Leeds recently stated their belief in being able to hang on to Gray for at least another season. Matteo is not surprised about the interest.

"When you're super talented like he is, the clubs are going to come looking. We've seen what he's done playing as a full-back. He knows, what he's doing. They've got this football intelligence in that family, and I'm sure Liverpool will look at him and go 'wow'.

"His dad (Andy Gray) has got some really big calls to make. It's up to him, Leeds United and the agents to make the right call for Archie and make sure they get the best for him," Matteo continues while also expressing his belief that Gray will be staying at Elland Road for now.

"I can't see him leaving Leeds at the moment. He's a Leeds lad. He's a Leeds fan. He wants to play for Leeds United and everybody at Leeds United wants him to stay. I think he will end up playing there."
