Davidson given first senior Australia call-up

Australia boss Holger Osieck has given Jason Davidson the chance build on his strong performances for clubs in Holland and Portugal by calling up the former Young Socceroo up for the forthcoming friendly against Scotland, reports the . Davidson has been forging a career in Europe over the past three years, most recently with top flight Dutch side Heracles Almelo where he has just broken into the first team.

"He made a great impact on his club in the first division of Holland," Osieck said of the 21-year-old defender.

"He had been part of Young Socceroos a couple of years ago and his performance level is getting up. It's a good opportunity for him to join the group and good signal to other boys if they keep working hard."

Australia take on Scotland at Easter Road in Edinburgh on August 15 in a match the Socceroos are using to prepare for their 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, which continues against Jordan on September 11.
