Uruguay forward Darwin Nunez has surprisingly been handed the No 9 shirt by Liverpool.

The attacker had a mixed first season at the Anfield club, often missing chances in games.

However, the Reds firmly believe that he will find his best form in his second season at the club.

“I'm really happy to wear No 9, and I'm very proud too," Nunez said.

“Honestly, previously other players represented this number really well, and now it is my turn to wear it.

“I hope that everything goes well. I hope I'm able to represent it in the best way just as the previous players did.

“Hopefully this is for many years and that it brings a lot of joy, too."
