Crystal Palace boss Hodgson blasts Van Dijk after defeat to Liverpool

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson was furious after their 2-1 defeat to Liverpool.

The Reds fought from a goal down to win 2-1, with Jordan Ayew being sent off for Palace.

Hodgson hit out at Reds captain Virgil van Dijk for his role in Ayew's dismissal.

He said, "We've had a lot of hard ones to take. I'm gutted for the players and how it panned out. Having to play with ten men was unbelievably harsh, the amount of fouls we committed were similar to Liverpool and we didn't deserve nine cards. It's sad for me.

"Van Dijk took the opportunity to get him the first yellow card, which was very disappointing. The second one I thought was a good challenge, even if it was deemed a foul, it wasn't a yellow. I've been in football a long time, games like today make me realise when I come to leave it behind, I won't be missing it."
