Nicholson, off contract in June, said: "Talks have started with the club and if the contract is right I'll be happy to stay. My family are settled in the area so, hopefully, something will be sorted out.

"Everything went well last season and I felt I got back to the level I should be playing at in terms of my performances.

"But I have to keep going and perhaps we can all enjoy some success this term."
