Hibs boss Collins confident Fletcher will stay

Although the 20-year-old striker is tied to Hibs until 2011, discussions over a new, improved deal appeared to have broken down last week when the player's agent, Scott Fisher, described the club's latest offer as "insulting".

"His take on it is that he knows he wants to stay at the club," said Collins. "He's enjoying his football, he's happy here. He thinks it's the best place for him to be and to develop. So do I, and so does Tommy [Craig, the assistant manager], and he wants to stay, so hopefully we'll get some good news regarding the contract in the next few days. He'll get an extension."

"There's no doubt that in the future Steven Fletcher will move on from the football club, but the secret is timing and going to the right club," added Collins. "There's no rush. He's still a young lad developing. He understands that as well.

"There's many a player moved and regretted it. You go as an international player, like Scott Brown did. He's a perfect example and he did it right. He became a full international as a Hibs player and was sold as a full international player. When that's the case, everybody gets a better deal. The club gets a better deal and he gets a better deal."
