Gold Coast adds six more names to take squad to ten

Gold Coast United have revealed all ten signings so far as they go about building a strong squad for their inaugural season next year. Former Juventus goalkeeper Jess Vanstrattan, fellow custodian Scott Higgins, current Wellington Phoenix striker Shane Smeltz and Newcastle Jets defender Adam Griffiths have already signed contracts with the Gold Coast-based franchise and the club has revealed a further six players to represent them in their very first season.

Former Melbourne Victory and Newcastle Jets defender Daniel Piorkowski along with former Adelaide United and Wellington Phoenix stopper Kristian Rees have both signed two-year deals.

Central Coast Mariners midfielder Matt Osman has signed for two years and will be joined by former New Zealand Knights and Dutch Eerste Divisie player Zenon Caravella who has also committed to the club for two years.

Another with links to the Melbourne Victory is out of favour midfielder/defender Steve Pantelidis who will make the move north and 32-year old midfielder Steve Fitzsimmons has signed a one-year deal.

Owner of Gold coast United, Professor Clive Palmer said all were welcome additions to the club as they strive to make their mark in the 2009/2010 A-League season.

"These players will provide added strength and depth to our squad and we look forward to welcoming them to our club next season," Professor Palmer said.

He continued: "The aim is for their time at Gold Coast United to long, successful and enjoyable. With the guidance of our coaches, Miron Bleiberg and Paul Okon, these players will contribute enormously to the exciting brand of football we intend to play."

Professor Palmer added that more players will be confirmed in the coming weeks as the Gold Coast's roster begins to take shape.
